A little bit about Mimi

Hello! My name is Shelley, though I am affectionately known as "Mimi" to the children. That name started with my grandson who calls me Mimi. The rest of the children followed suit and over the years, the name has been handed down from one group of children to the next. I absolutely love being everyone’s Mimi, and I love and nurture them just like my own grandkids.

With 30 years of experience in the early childhood field, I have crafted my approach to create a gentle, safe space for little ones to grow. I hold a degree in Early Childhood Education and my approach is enriched by additional studies in Waldorf, Montessori, and Reggio Emilia methods, allowing me to tailor my care to each child's unique spirit.

I am slowly completing classes and training specifically focused on supporting neurodivergent children. This ongoing education ensures every child feels seen and supported in my home. My goal is to work towards becoming a Certified ADHD Coach as I continue my professional journey.

After directing a large licensed childcare center for 10 years, I returned to home-based care to provide a smaller, more personal, and family-focused environment. I am a proud member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

In addition to my wonderful grandson, I have two adult children and one child in middle school. Our home is also shared with a small dog and a cat who are calm and gentle companions for the children.

The Honey Bee Hollow Mission Statement

Honey Bee Hollow is a licensed, private family childcare home  specializing in the nurturing and development of infants and toddlers. I offer a home environment dedicated to providing high-quality, individualized care in a warm, loving, and peaceful setting.

My Mission

To provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment where infants and toddlers can thrive physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively.

To promote each child's individual growth and development through play-based learning activities that are age-appropriate and cater to their unique interests.

To foster strong and positive relationships with each child and their families, building a supportive community where everyone feels valued and respected.

To create a joyful and stimulating atmosphere where children can explore, discover, and learn through hands-on experiences.

To partner with families to ensure the continuity of care and support a child's holistic development both at home and at Honey Bee Hollow.

My Core Values

Love and Respect
I believe that all children deserve to be treated with love, respect, and dignity as they navigate their earliest milestones.

Individuality
I value each child's unique personality, interests, and needs, ensuring that my care adapts to them rather than forcing them to adapt to a rigid schedule.

Play-Based Learning
I believe that play is the essential work of childhood. My environment is filled with natural tones and toys to encourage meaningful, child-led discovery.

Family Partnership
I believe that families are a child's first and most important teachers, and I strive to partner with you to ensure the best possible care for your child.

Community

I believe in creating a strong sense of community within our hive, where children and families feel supported, connected, and safe.

My Vision

I envision Honey Bee Hollow as a model for high-quality, home-based care. My goal is to ensure infants and toddlers receive the dedicated love and attention they need to blossom into happy, healthy, and well-rounded individuals.
